Wagah (India – Pakistan) Border

The partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 made a marking line that defines the Wagah border between India and pakistan. Border is separated by two gates near about 2 meter apart from each other. Wagah border is 28 kilometer from the city of Amritsar and is only open border crossing between India and Pakistan which officially accessible for both nations.

The closing ceremony at Wagah border is also known as lowering of the flags ceremony. It is daily martial custom performed by security forces of India and Pakistan and it has been mutually followed since 1959. This interesting ceremony takes place in every evening before sun set at the Wagah border.

As the sun starts to set, Wagah Border comes alive with an incredible zeal and an unmistakable nationalist energy on both sides. The show starts off with the playing of patriotic songs and remembering the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. The crowd cheers on by calling out ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, reciprocated with cries of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ from the opposite side.
